A balanced life: seven daily domains
Short answer: A sustainable business rests on a sustainable life. Check in daily on seven domains: feelings, faith, focus, family, finances, fitness and fun. Write down your vision for the next year and the next twenty, break it into quarterly checkpoints, and let small daily habits carry you toward it.
Where do you start?
With a plan. What does your future look like in twenty years? Ten? Five? One? Break it into quarterly checkpoints. It often takes about 30 days to form a habit, 60 to strengthen it, and 90 to see real results. Writing down your goals and your vision can be the hardest thing you do, and it is the most important.
What are the seven domains?
- Feelings. Success often depends on pushing past emotions that hold you back. Build a trigger or routine that helps you start.
- Faith. Hold yourself to a higher power or a set of guiding values. It gives you purpose when the work is hard.
- Focus. Spend a few hours a day on what moves your goals forward, with a hopeful outlook.
- Family. Leadership begins at home. Add value to the people who rely on you.
- Finances. Look at your numbers daily to see whether you're on track.
- Fitness. Take care of your body: daily sunlight and a walk, and mindful eating.
- Fun. Enjoy the ride, and celebrate wins, big or small.
How do you use it?
Each day, do one small thing in each domain. It can be five minutes. Over time, the habits support each other.
