How educational interviews help families (and the attorneys who serve them)
Short answer: Families who inherit a house usually have the same few questions. A short, relaxed educational interview lets an estate or probate attorney explain the basics in plain language, in the attorney's own words, so families understand the process before they call anyone. You choose the topics, and nothing is exchanged for referrals.
Why do interviews help?
Families who inherit a house usually ask the same questions. What happens to the house? Who pays the taxes? Do we need to go to court? Do we have to sell? When they can't find clear answers, they put off decisions or make costly ones.
What does an interview look like?
- 45 to 60 minutes, recorded and edited by us, at no cost to you.
- Topics you choose, such as executors, small estate affidavits, or timelines.
- A plain-language video that families can watch and share.
- A written page built around the same questions, so families can find it by searching.
What are you in control of?
You decide what to say and what is accurate for your clients. I don't give legal advice, and I review nothing on the legal side. You can review the edit before it is published.
What is this not?
It is not a referral arrangement. No payment is requested or offered in exchange for referrals. Everything here is educational. Please follow your own state bar's advertising and referral rules, and ask your ethics counsel if you have questions about participating.
What could the interview cover?
- How long probate usually takes in your county.
- The most common causes of delay.
- Why notifying creditors early matters.
- What the county tax office has to do with an estate.
- Whether a property can be sold during probate, and what it depends on.
- What families can do, legally and responsibly, to keep things moving.
